2004 Bob MintzerA sax player formerly with Art Blakey's band jammed with the Lakewood Jazz Ensemble in 1987. Born in 1925, Al Cohn played with Woody Herman's Second Herd, Buddy Rich, Artie Shaw, Alvino Rey and many others. He was also sought after as a performer, composer and arranger for many recording projects and public performances. Al Cohn was the first guest artist to perform with my Big Band in the summer concert series called "Big Band Bootcamp". He played on the outdoor stage of the Lakewood Amphitheater. The success of Al Cohn performing as part of my summer concert series started a trend of two world famous Jazz Artists Concerts per year for almost a decade.
